Legal Requirements For Marriage
All documents should be originals or certified originals. Documents are to be faxed or submitted by courier eg. Fed Ex at least one month prior to the desired wedding date. As an alternative to doing it yourself wedding coordinators at many resorts offer special wedding packages which include handling all the legal details.
Residency Required: 2 days before the wedding
Waiting Period Required: Must receive application and all documents 1 month before ceremony via fax and then courier eg. Fed Ex to the Civil Registry for review.
Minimum Age without Parental Consent: 21 years of age
Witnesses Required: Yes, 2
Original Documents Required:
- Evidence of the date you arrive on the island eg. airline ticket.
- Effective 12/31/2006 all US citizens traveling to the
Caribbean must have a passport. European travelers must
carry European Union Travel card as well as a passport.
- Visa requirements vary for each person depending on country of origin
- Birth Certificate with a raised seal
- Proof of Divorce Decree if Divorced
- Proof of Death Certificate if Widowed
- Birth Certificate must be certified
- Apostille Report showing that you are both single and eligible to marry
- Photo ID issued by a Government Office in the country where you reside
- Proof of Citizenship
Comments/Special Requirements: All civil ceremonies must take place in the City Hall in Oranjestad or in the US before having a church wedding in Aruba. Ceremonies performed Wednesday to Friday 9:30am - 2pm.
